Targeted Compliance
Last updated February 15, 2026
Pre-Production Disclosure: Our hydrogen production facility in West Virginia is currently in development. As of this date, Activated Carbon USA does not hold active certifications for the standards listed below. These represent the compliance targets we are working toward as the facility is built, commissioned, and expanded. Formal certifications and third-party verification will be pursued as production capacity comes online.
Activated Carbon USA is committed to meeting the quality, safety, and performance standards required by the industries we serve. The standards outlined below represent our compliance roadmap—the certifications and testing benchmarks we intend to achieve as our facility progresses from development through full-scale production.
Targeted Standards
ASTM D4607 — Iodine Number
The standard test method for determination of iodine number of activated carbon. This measures the adsorption capacity of activated carbon using iodine from solution, providing a key quality indicator for micropore development. We are targeting iodine numbers of 800–1050 mg/g, which we expect to validate through ASTM D4607 testing once production begins.
AWWA B604 — Granular Activated Carbon
The American Water Works Association standard covering granular activated carbon used in water treatment. AWWA B604 establishes requirements for product quality, testing, and certification relevant to municipal and industrial water purification. Compliance with this standard is a priority for our water treatment product lines.
NSF/ANSI 61 — Drinking Water System Components
The health effects standard for products that contact drinking water. NSF/ANSI 61 certification confirms that a product does not contribute harmful levels of contaminants to drinking water. We intend to pursue NSF/ANSI 61 listing for our granular and powdered activated carbon grades intended for potable water applications.
ISO 9001 — Quality Management Systems
The international standard for quality management systems. ISO 9001 certification demonstrates a consistent ability to provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. We plan to implement ISO 9001-aligned quality management practices from the outset of production, with formal certification to follow.
Our Approach
Even in the pre-production phase, we are building our processes and supplier relationships with these compliance targets in mind. Our goal is to ensure that when production begins, the transition to formal certification is as seamless as possible. This includes:
- Designing quality control workflows aligned with ISO 9001 principles from day one
- Partnering with accredited third-party laboratories for independent testing and verification
- Establishing traceability systems to provide certificates of analysis (COA) with every shipment
- Engaging with regulatory bodies and industry associations early in the development process
Documentation Availability
As our facility reaches production milestones, compliance documentation will be made available to customers and prospective offtake partners. This will include:
- Certificates of analysis (COA) per shipment
- Safety data sheets (SDS)
- Technical data sheets with product specifications
- Third-party lab verification reports
- Certification status updates as they are achieved
